Nuweiba - Egypt

Nuweiba, Egypt by Eugene Van Zyl

I have just returned from a week long dive trip to Nuweiba, Egypt. And what a pleasure it has been!!
By contacting AfricanDiversNuweiba, even the organisation of the trip was great. With exception to the flights, they arranged absolutely everything…airport transfers, accommodation at their local hotel Swiss Care Resort and of-course all our dives.
Daniel & Sarah was just an email away, and they were always willing to reply to any queries, no matter how odd they might have been. The staff & management at the hotel was excellent. I can honestly say I have never had staff be so helpful & willing to “make-a-plan” when requesting something irregular. The rest of the world can surely learn from these guys!!!

And of-course the diving…superb! The only regret I do have is that I wasn’t able to stay longer. There is just so much to see & explore on every dive that we did. Doing two dives a day, over 5 days (you can purchase more dives at a very good price!!), I took in excess of 200 photos. The reefs are vast and you can spend days criss-crossing them, inspecting every crevasse to see if a moray is waiting to pounce from inside…or whether something else is using it as shelter. The number of lion fish are uncountable. The tropical life is vast, with all the favourites making appearances all over the places…turtles, sand & blue spotted rays, large puffers & groupers, sole, beautiful parrots, watch out for the almost invisible stone fish, cornets, octopus, sea horses, etc….I can go on for pages.
The dive sites are all near the hotel, and the longer you stay, the further you will be taken out to other sites.
The hotel’s local reef even offers days of enjoyment for non-divers. At 5-6m, snorkeling is easy, and again you just have so much to see that a week wont cover it.
Even the raggedy old jeep we used added to the great adventure. You really get a feeling for Egypt in Nuweiba…not the westernised, commercialisation of some other areas.

Although it is a 2 hour trip from Sharm El Sheikh (but only 50km from Taba), you get to see more of what Egypt is about, and after a while, you actually start finding the barren landscape beautiful.
Excluding the flights (we all know they are getting ridiculous), the entire week cost less than £500 per person, which in my book is a serious bargain. Making up for the stupid airfares.

AfricanDiversNuweiba will definitely hear from me again. Well done guys, you got a jewel there…stick it out!
