I would like to hear a review from someone who has used the MK17 in cold water.
I have not used the MK17 personally, but would strongly recommend this reg to any cold water divers in place of the MK25 TIS. I am an avid diver, Scuba Pro tech and cold water diver and I can tell you from experience that the MK25 with the TIS(Thermal Insulating System) is not the regulator of choice for all divers when in cold water. I had problems at a Mine Pit in Northwestern Minnesota at 100 feet. It is important to note that I have dove in the deep cold waters before with this regulator and would do so again, but the MK25 should not be used by novice divers in cold water. The qualities that make this reg great also can contribute to problems in cold water.
I had issue because I neglected to adjust the air flow on my second stage prior to beginning my dive. It was allowing more air flow and I believe that this contributed greatly to my problem as I was pushing more air through the already frigid system. I would highly recommend the MK25 to any diver of warm waters as it has some great performance.
I have gone to the MK16 diaphram regulator for cold water diving. I have not seen the specs yet on the MK17, but appearance would leave me to believe it is basically the guts of a MK16 with a new TIS housing. I hope to take a class soon on it.

I have used the MK 17 /X650 in the cold water of Lake Michigan. I did four dives with it down to 205 feet, the water temperature was 38-40 F. It performed very well and I had no problems. I had the intermdiate pressure turned down to dive in cold water when I purchased it. I have absolute confidence in it and will continue to dive it.
I also have dove my MK20/G250 in the same conditions and had no problems with this set up either.
